  • Minimum: $51,662.00
  • Maximum: $75,244.00

Applicants who have successfully completed a bona fide apprenticeship program registered with the Department of Labor and obtained journeyman status will start at $58,318 annually.

Position Specifications

Incumbents in this position are responsible for supervising and participating in installing, maintaining and repairing heating, ventilating and air conditioning and refrigerating equipment and systems within City buildings and facilities.

Minimum Qualifications

An Associate's degree or completion of a two year training program in Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Heating Technology from a recognized trade school or junior college; plus four years of experience in the diagnosis, installation, maintenance and repair of refrigeration, air conditioning and heating systems doing commercial and institutional HVAC service and installation work.  OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Certification:  Must be certified in EPA Standards at the Universal level (Type I, II and III) for refrigeration handling.

License:  Must possess and maintain a valid Missouri driver's license while employed by the City of St. Louis. Must possess a valid driver’s license at the time of filing application and be able to present it at the Oral Interview. Please note type of license, number, class and expiration date on the Employment Application. Applicants who do not possess a Missouri driver’s license must present a “Driving Record Check” from their State’s Department of Motor Vehicles.

Documentation of academic credentials, certification in EPA Standards and proof of completion of a bona fide apprenticeship program registered with the Department of Labor and journeyman status (if applicable) must be submitted at the time of the Oral Interview.

Your employment experience and training will be used to determine whether you meet the entrance requirements for this position and to compute your experience and training evaluation.  Applicants will only receive credit for their experience and education as shown on the application. Resumes will not be accepted as a substitute to a fully completed application. When completing the Employment History section of the application, include reasons for changes in employers and explain any gaps in employment.  Incomplete and/or carelessly completed applications will not be considered. MEDICAL:  Candidates will be required to pass a "Drug Screen" as part of the medical examination.

VETERAN'S PREFERENCE POINTS:  To be eligible for veteran's preference points, the applicant must submit a copy of their DD 214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty with the Employment Application or upon request.  The Director of Personnel may, in their discretion, accept alternate documentation.

CITY RESIDENTS PREFERENCE POINTS: City residents who pass an examination for a position in the classified service and do not receive any other preference will receive a five (5) point preference on a scale of 100 points on the exam. An additional one (1) point shall be added to the passing score of City residents who receive any other preference on a scale of 100 pointsCity residents must have resided in the City for at least one (1) year at the time of filing their application to be eligible for the preference points.
