EMS Crew Comes to Aid of Art Hill Sledder
Winter fun turns into polar bear plunge
This article is 14 years old. It was published on March 1, 2011.
One of the traditional winter pastimes of St. Louisans is to go sledding on Art Hill in Forest Park whenever we have any significant amount of snow. One sledder got a little more than he bargained for last month. Perhaps you saw the story on KPLR-TV.
The combination of sleet and snow that fell Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 turned Art Hill particularly treacherous. One sledder managed to break through the bales of hay at the bottom of Art Hill that served as a barrier and ended up for a brief few moments in the lake.
An EMS crew arrived and offered assistance to the sledder. Parks officials said they would beef up the barriers to prevent this from happening again.
