Election Dates

In the City of St. Louis, Primary and General Municipal elections are held in odd-numbered years.

  • The Primary Municipal Election in the City of St. Louis is held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in March in each odd-numbered year.
  • The General Municipal Election in the City of St. Louis is held on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in April in each odd-numbered year.

Election Years

Elections held in even-numbered years:

  • The City Treasurer, Circuit Attorney, Sheriff, Committeemen, and Committeewomen stand for reelection every four years: in 2028, 2032, 2026, etc.
  • The Collector of Revenue, License Collector, and Recorder of Deeds stand for reelection every four years: in 2026, 2030, 2034, etc.

Elections held in odd-numbered years:

  • The Mayor, Comptroller, and all Aldermen/women serving odd-numbered wards stand for reelection every four years: in 2025, 2029, 2033, etc.
  • The President of the Board of Aldermen and all Aldermen/women serving even-numbered wards stand for reelection every four years: in 2027, 2031, 2035, etc.
  • St. Louis Public Schools Board of Education elections are always held during municipal elections in odd-numbered years. However, two of the seven board members are elected at the General Election rather than the Primary Election. The number of seats on the ballot varies by year. Contact the Board of Election Commissioners for information about upcoming SLPS board elections.

Circuit Attorney Every 4 even years: in 2028, 2032, 2036, etc
City Treasurer Every 4 even years: in 2028, 2032, 2036, etc
Collector of Revenue Every 4 even years: in 2026, 2030, 2034, etc.
Committeeman/woman Every 4 even years: in 2028, 2032, 2036, etc
Comptroller Every 4 odd years: in 2029, 2033, 2037 etc.
License Collector Every 4 even years: in 2026, 2030, 2034, etc.
Mayor Every 4 odd years: in 2029, 2033, 2037 etc.
President of the Board of Aldermen Every 4 odd years: in 2027, 2031, 2035, etc.
Recorder of Deeds Every 4 even years: in 2026, 2030, 2034, etc.
Sheriff Every 4 even years: in 2028, 2032, 2036, etc

A person who files a Declaration of Candidacy for a Primary Municipal Election may withdraw as a candidate by 5:00pm 50 days prior to the date of the election.

  Filing opens Filing closes
St. Louis Public School Board 8:00am, the seventeenth Tuesday prior to the election 5:00pm on the fourteenth Tuesday prior to the election

Filing Dates for County Offices

These filing dates are for City Treasurer, Circuit Attorney, Collector of Revenue, Committeemen and Committeewomen, License Collector, Recorder of Deeds, Sheriff.

Write-in Candidates No prescribed opening 5:00pm, the second Friday immediately preceding the election
