Qualifications to file for Comptroller

  • Citizen of the United States for five years
  • Resident of the City of St. Louis for five years
  • Thirty years of age
  • Assessed taxpayer of the City of St. Louis for two years
  • Shall not have been convicted of malfeasance in office, bribery or other corrupt practice or crime

Payment of Taxes and Bills for Services (St. Louis City Ordinance 70991, effective 8/8/19)

  • File official copies with the Board of Election Commissioners of receipts or statements of no taxes due from the Collector of Revenue evidencing the individual is not delinquent in the payment of any personal property tax, real property tax on properties located in the City of St Louis that are wholly or partially owned by the individual filing for elected office, and City of St. Louis earnings tax.
  • File official statements from the Collector of Revenue with the Board of Election Commissioners evidencing the individual is not delinquent in the payment of any City of St. Louis water and refuse bills.
  • File an affidavit with the Board of Election Commissioners that the candidate is not delinquent in the filing or payment of any personal property tax, real property tax on properties located in the City of St. Louis that are wholly or partially owned by the candidate, City of St. Louis earnings tax, and City of St. Louis water and refuse bills.

Filing opens for party candidates as follows:

Filing dates for Comptroller candidates
Filing Opens 8:00am 100 Days before the primary election
Filing Closes 5:00pm 60 days before the primary election
Withdraw   50 days before the primary election

Filing Fee

1% of salary paid to the Treasurer of the City Central Committee of the political party upon whose ticket the candidate seeks nomination.
