Information on regulations for swimming pools in the City of St. Louis

Swimming pools must be maintained to protect the health of people coming in contact with the water. 

Environmental Health officers inspect non-residential pools and spas within the City of St. Louis for sanitation and safety issues.

Pool Safely

Drowning is the number one cause of unintentional death among children ages 1-4.  That is why the City of St. Louis Department of Health is taking part in a national initiative to protect children from drowning by encouraging all to take the pledge to Pool Safely

Safe Swimming Tips

  • Never leave a child unattended in or near water. 
  • Teach a child how to swim. 
  • Teach children to stay away from drains. 
  • Ensure all pools and spas, both in your backyard and any public pool you may visit, have compliant drain covers.
  • Install proper barriers, covers, and alarms on and around your pool and spa. 
  • Know how to perform CPR on children and adults.
  • Take the Pool Safely pledge.
