Overview, preparation and instructions to apply for an Auctioneer Business License

Overview

If you are a licensed Auctioneer in any county in the State of Missouri, St. Louis City recognizes that license. However, if you have an office in the City of St. Louis, you must still obtain an Auctioneer License from the City of St. Louis. You may wish to review the Missouri Revised Statutes, Section 343.080 Public Auctioneers for additional information.

Instructions

Step 1: Obtain Auctioneer's License

On your visit to the License Collector’s office in Room 104 of City Hall, an auctioneer’s license can be purchased according to the following scale:

  • One month date to date: $10.00
  • Three months date to date: $20.00
  • Six month date to date: $30.00
  • One year date to date: $50.00

There is a $2.00 registration fee for each license.

Please contact the License Collector's Office for the correct application. We have the ability to mail, fax, or e-mail your application.

Step 2: Obtain Statement of Clearance

In addition to visiting the License Collector’s office, you will also need to obtain a clearance from the Collector of Revenue’s office at the location below:

Step 3: Obtain Occupancy Permit

You must also obtain an Occupancy Permit from the Building Division at the location below:

What to Expect

Once all clearances and payments are received, you will be able to obtain your license to do business in the City of St. Louis.

Additional Information

If you pay by check, the license application may be held for several working days until the check clears.

A separate Graduated Business License is required for each business location or trade name (St. Louis City Ordinance 52030).
