Nature of Work
This is work performing inspection, testing, maintenance and repair duties to City facilities, equipment and systems in a variety of trade areas. Duties may require work in the following areas: plumbing, rough and finished carpentry, concrete work, lock and security systems, and metal fabrication. Must be able to work from sketches and blueprints. This eligible list may be used to fill a vacancy at St. Louis Lambert International Airport. Candidates must be available to work shifts, weekends, holidays and overtime. A shift differential is paid for evening and night shifts. Employees assigned to St. Louis Lambert International Airport may be eligible for a commuting allowance of $141.00 bi-weekly. Three years of recent full-time paid experience in the facilities maintenance trade. Work experience must demonstrate proficiency in facility trades such as carpentry, electrical, plumbing, or locksmith.
OR, an Associate’s degree in facility maintenance, plumbing, carpentry, electrical engineering or a closely related field and, one year of recent full-time paid experience in the facilities maintenance trade.
OR, an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Some positions may require certification for refrigerant removal from appliances such as air conditioners, freezers and refrigerators.
Document of academic credentials must be submitted with the Employment Application or at the time of the Oral Interview.
License: Must possess and maintain a valid Missouri driver’s license while employed by the City of St. Louis. Must possess a valid driver’s license at the time of filing the application and be able to present license at the time of the Oral Interview. Please note type of license, number, class and expiration date on the Employment Application. At the time of the Oral Interview, applicants who do not possess a Missouri driver’s license will be required to present a “Driving Record Check” from their State’s Department of Motor Vehicles.
To be eligible for veterans preference points, the applicant must submit a copy of his/her DD 214 Certificate of Release or discharge from Active Duty with the Employment Application or at the time of the Oral Interview. The Director of Personnel may, in his discretion, accept alternate documentation.
A limited number of applicants may be scheduled for the Oral Interview based on an evaluation of their qualifying education, training and experience as listed on the Employment Application. Complete the Employment History and Educational/Training History sections of the Employment Application even if you submit a resume. Resumes will not be accepted as a substitute to a fully completed application. When completing the Employment History section of the application, include reasons for changes in employers and explain any gaps in employment. Incomplete and/or carelessly completed applications will not be considered.
CHARACTER INVESTIGATION: These positions require candidates to pass a “Character Investigation” prior to appointment. The Director of Personnel may reject the application, or refuse to test and/or eliminate an applicant from an examination as otherwise permitted by law. For airport positions, a ten-year background investigation will be conducted in accordance with FAA regulations.
MEDICAL: Candidates will be required to pass a “Drug Screen” as part of the medical examination.
