Nature of Work
This is skilled mechanical maintenance work. Responsibilities may include performing maintenance on high pressure boilers, air handling units, cooling towers, large steam pipes, pumps, motors, compressors, electric controls, switches, and valves. Some positions may require working a rotating shift during the heating season, and may require working on ladders and catwalks in and around various heights, and confined spaces. This eligible list may be used to fill vacancies at St. Louis Lambert International Airport. A commuting allowance of $141.00 bi-weekly is paid to City employees of St. Louis Lambert International Airport.
Four years of recent full-time paid experience installing, repairing, and maintaining high and low pressure steam boilers and pumping systems, air handling equipment or other related mechanical equipment. Completion of a skilled trades training program in HVAC or plumbing may substitute for two years of the required experience.
OR, an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
License: Must possess and maintain a valid Missouri driver’s license while employed by the City of St. Louis. Must possess a valid driver’s license at the time of filing the Employment Application and be able to present license at the time of the Oral Interview. Please note type of license, number, class and expiration date on the Employment Application. At the time of the Oral Interview, applicants who do not possess a Missouri driver’s license will be required to submit a “Driving Record Check” from their State’s Department of Motor Vehicles.
Official proof of qualifying educational achievement and completion of recognized apprenticeship program (if applicable) must be submitted with the Employment Application or at the time of the Oral Interview.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge in the use of welding equipment, shielded metal arc, acetylene, and oxygen welding. Some experience in interpreting and working from blueprints.
A limited number of applicants may be scheduled for the Oral Interview based on an evaluation of their qualifying experience and training as listed on the Employment Application. Please fully describe your educational achievements and work experience in the mechanical maintenance field. Complete the Employment History and Educational/Training History sections of the Employment Application even if you submit a resume. Resumes will not be accepted as a substitute to a fully completed application. Incomplete and/or carelessly completed applications will not be considered.
CHARACTER INVESTIGATION: Applicants will be required to present a “Police Record Check” at the time of the Oral Interview.
For Airport positions, a ten year background investigation will be conducted in accordance with FAA regulations.
MEDICAL: Candidates will be required to pass a DRUG SCREEN TEST as part of the Medical examination.
