Nature of Work
This is work installing, dismantling, overhauling, maintaining and assembling a variety of heavy mechanical equipment such as traveling intake screens, raw water and treated water pumps and pump motors, sluice gates, valves, boilers, air compressors, cooling towers, etc. Additional responsibilities include pipe welding, pipe threading, measuring and layout of piping systems, as well as operating overhead cranes and rigging large asymmetric machinery. Must be able to work in confined and deep structures and from suspended platforms.
Three years of recent full-time paid experience in repairing and maintaining a variety of heavy mechanical equipment including some experience in welding and pipe work;
OR, successful completion of a welding, pipefitting, or millwright apprenticeship program;
OR, three years of full-time paid experience as a welder, pipefitter, or millwright.
License: Must possess and maintain a valid Missouri driver’s license while employed by the City of St. Louis. Must possess a valid driver’s license at the time of filing application and be able to present license at the time of the Oral Interview. Please note type of license, number, class and expiration date on the employment application. Applicants who do not possess a Missouri driver’s license will be required to present a “Driving Record Check” from their State’s Department of Motor Vehicles.
To be eligible for veterans preference points, the applicant must submit a copy of his/her DD 214 Certificate of Release or discharge from Active Duty with the Employment Application or at the time of the Oral Interview. The Director of Personnel may, in his discretion, accept alternate documentation.

Please fully describe your work experience and educational achievements. Complete the Employment History and Education/Training History sections of the Employment Application even if you submit a resume. Resumes will not be accepted as a substitute to a fully completed application. When completing the Employment History section of the application, include reasons for changes in employers and explain any gaps in employment. Incomplete and/or carelessly completed applications will not be considered.
CHARACTER INVESTIGATION: These positions require candidates for pass a "Character Investigation" prior to appointment. The Director of Personnel may reject the application, or refuse to test and/or eliminate an applicant from an examination as otherwise permitted by law.
