Normal entry salary is $33,722.

Nature of Work

This is skilled work consisting of lifting and loading refuse and garbage into trucks. Incumbent will pick up and empty garbage cans into truck; pick up debris and other refuse; and operate mechanism for loading and dumping garbage and refuse. These positions require availability for 24-hour snow call. Minimum Qualifications

Three years of full-time paid experience in the operation of heavy and specialized vehicles;

OR, three years of truck driving experience with the City of St. Louis as a Utility Worker, Lead Utility Worker, Water Utility Worker, Equipment Operator, or Heavy Equipment Operator I.

LICENSE: Must possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License (Class A or B) or CDL permit at time of filing Employment Application. Must possess and maintain a valid Missouri Commercial Driver’s License while employed by the City of St. Louis. Candidates that have a CDL permit at the time of hire must obtain a valid CDL (Class A or B) as a condition of successfully completing their working test (probationary) period. Please note type of license, number, class, expiration date, and State where issued on the License section of the Employment Application. Applicants that do not have a Missouri CDL will be required to submit a “Driving Record Check” from their State’s Department of Motor Vehicles.

To be eligible for veterans preference points, the applicant must submit a copy of his/her DD 214 Certificate of Release or discharge from Active Duty with the Employment Application or at the time of the Oral Interview. The Director of Personnel may, in his discretion, accept alternate documentation.

When completing the Employment History and the Educational/Training History sections of the application, please be as thorough as possible when describing your experience, training and education relating to this position, particularly your experience driving heavy and specialized vehicles. Applicants will only receive credit for their experience, training, and education listed on the application. Your employment experience and training will be used to determine whether you meet the entrance requirements for this position and to compute your Experience and Training evaluation. When completing the Employment History section of the application, include reasons for changes in employers and explain any gaps in employment. Incomplete and/or carelessly completed applications will not be considered.

CHARACTER INVESTIGATION: These positions require candidates to pass a “Character Investigation” prior to appointment. The Director of Personnel may reject the application, or refuse to test and/or eliminate an applicant from an examination as otherwise permitted by law.

MEDICAL: The pre-employment medical exam will include a drug/alcohol screen and subsequent random drug/alcohol testing in accordance with D.O.T. regulations.
