Nature of Work
This is skilled work in the repair, overhaul, and maintenance of various types of automotive equipment. Some positions in this class are responsible for small engine repair on equipment such as lawnmowers, chain saws, tillers, etc. Employees must be able to use all appropriate testing equipment to diagnose and locate specific problems. Some positions are per performance and are paid $16.75 per hour. Per performance positions are not covered by the Employee Benefits Program and do not require City residency.
Three years of full-time paid experience in the repair, overhaul, and maintenance of automotive or landscaping equipment such as utility tractors, lawnmowers, and two-cycle engines; OR, an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Employees must furnish their own set of hand tools.
License: Must possess and maintain a valid Missouri driver’s license while employed by the City of St. Louis. Must be able to present license at time of the Oral Interview. Some positions may require a commercial driver’s license or permit by the completion of the working test period (usually six months from date of hire) and maintain license while employed by the City of St. Louis. Please note type of license, number, class and expiration date on the Employment Application. At the time of the Oral Interview, applicants who do not possess a Missouri driver’s license will be required to present a “Driving Record Check” from their State’s Department of Motor Vehicles.
Official proof of qualifying educational achievement must be submitted at the time of the Oral Interview, if applicable.
To be eligible for veterans preference points, the applicant must submit a copy of his/her DD214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty with the Employment Application or at the time of the Oral Interview. The Director of Personnel may, in his discretion, accept alternate documentation.
When completing the Employment History and Educational/Training History sections of the application, please be as thorough as possible when describing your experience, training and education relating to this position. Applicants must provide explanation for all changes in employment and any gaps in their employment history. Incomplete and/or carelessly completed applications will not be considered.
CHARACTER INVESTIGATION: These positions require candidates to pass a "Character Investigation" prior to appointment. The Director of Personnel may reject the application, or refuse to test and/or eliminate an applicant from an examination as otherwise permitted by law.
MEDICAL: A “Drug Screen” will be administered as a part of the Medical examination.
