Nature of Work
Incumbents in this position perform manual labor and operate aerial lift trucks and tree maintenance equipment to remove and maintain trees and shrubs. Duties include performing tree trimming/removal work at varying heights with chain saws and related equipment and operating aerial lift trucks and chippers in the disposal of tree debris. Candidates must be available for 24-hour snow call, emergency windstorm call and overtime. One year of recent full-time paid experience in the operation of manual and power tools, ropes and other tools used in planting, pruning, trimming and removing trees and stumps.
License: Must possess a valid Missouri Commercial Driver's License or Commercial Driver's License permit (Class A or B) at the time of filing application and be able to present it at the time of the Oral Interview. Applicants with a Commercial Driver's License permit at the time of hire must be able to obtain a valid Commercial Driver's License (Class A or B) by the completion of their working test period. Incumbents must possess and maintain a valid Missouri Commercial Driver's License (Class A or B) while employed by the City of St. Louis. Please note type of license, number, class and expiration date on the Employment Application. Applicants who do not possess a Missouri Commercial Driver's License or Commercial Driver's License permit will be required to present a “Driving Record Check” from their State's Department of Motor Vehicles.
A limited number of applicants may be scheduled for the Oral Interview based on an evaluation of their qualifying education, training and experience as listed on the Employment Application. Complete the Employment History and Educational/Training History sections of the Employment Application even if you submit a resume. Resumes will not be accepted as a substitute to a fully completed application. When completing the Employment History section of the application, include reasons for changes in employers and explain any gaps in employment. Incomplete and/or carelessly completed applications will not be considered.
MEDICAL: The pre-employment medical exam will include a drug screen and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing will be conducted in accordance with D.O.T. regulations.
VETERANS PREFERENCE POINTS: To be eligible for veterans preference points, the applicant must submit a copy of his/her DD 214 Certificate of Release or discharge from Active Duty with the Employment Application or at the time of the Oral Interview. The Director of Personnel may, in his discretion, accept alternate documentation.
