Nature of Work
Incumbents in this position perform preventative maintenance duties and repair of automotive equipment and vehicles. Duties include assisting automotive mechanics and heavy equipment mechanics in complete engine, transmission, differential, brakes, clutch, hydraulic and other overhaul and repairs. A high school diploma or General Educational Development (G.E.D.) certificate AND successful completion of a recognized trade school or junior college program in automotive technology, OR two years of recent full-time paid experience in the repair and maintenance of automotive equipment and vehicles. OR, an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Must be able to operate manual and automatic transmission vehicles. Must furnish own set of tools.
Proof of qualifying educational achievement must be submitted with the Employment Application or at the time of the Oral Interview.
License: Please note type of license, number, class and expiration date on the Employment Application. Applicants who do not possess a Missouri driver's license will be required to present a "Driving Record Check" from their State's Department of Motor Vehicles. Applicants who do not possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) (Class B) must obtain said license by completion of the working test period. Incumbents must maintain the CDL while employed by the City of St Louis. When completing the Employment Application, please be as thorough as possible when describing your experience, training and education. MEDICAL: The pre-employment medical exam will include a drug screen and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing will be conducted in accordance with D.O.T. regulations.
VETERAN'S PREFERENCE POINTS: To be eligible for veteran's preference points, the applicant must submit a copy of his/her DD 214 Certificate of Release or discharge from Active Duty with the Employment Application or at the time of the Oral Interview. The Director of Personnel may, in his discretion, accept alternate documentation.
