Nature of Work
Incumbents in this position operate, maintain and repair stationary engines and mechanical equipment to provide utilities or power for buildings and industrial processes. Work involves shift, weekend and holiday assignments; therefore, candidates must be available for shift work. A shift differential is paid to full-time employees working evening and night shifts. A high school diploma or General Educational Development (G.E.D.) certificate.
Licenses: Applicants must possess and maintain all of the following while employed by the City of St. Louis: a current Stationary Engineer’s License (Class 1) issued by the City of St. Louis and a valid Missouri driver's license. Copies of licenses must be submitted with the Employment Application. If you apply online, please submit a copy of your Stationary Engineer’s License (Class 1), driver's license and, if applicable, current Water Supply Operator's Certificate, under separate cover to the Department of Personnel, 1114 Market Street, Room 700, St. Louis, MO 63101, Attention: Joyce Landrum. Applicants who do not possess a Missouri driver's license must also submit a "Driving Record Check" from their State's Department of Motor Vehicles.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Two years of recent full-time paid experience in the operation of high pressure boilers, chillers in excess of 500 tons, building automation systems, emergency generators or related equipment.

MEDICAL: Candidates will be required to pass a "Drug Screen" as part of the medical examination.
VETERAN'S PREFERENCE POINTS: To be eligible for veteran's preference points, the applicant must submit a copy of his/her DD 214 Certificate of Release or discharge from Active Duty with the Employment Application. The Director of Personnel may, in his discretion, accept alternate documentation.
Employees assigned to St. Louis Lambert International Airport may be eligible for a commuting allowance of $141.00 bi-weekly.
A ten year background investigation will be conducted in accordance with FAA regulations for positions at St. Louis Lambert International Airport.
