Applicants who meet the minimum experience and training requirements will start at $34,840 annually. Applicants who have successfully completed a bona fide apprenticeship program registered with the Department of Labor and obtained journeyman status will start at $41,028 annually. Proof of completion of apprenticeship program and journeyman status must be submitted with the Employment Application or at the time of the Performance Test.
Nature of Work
Incumbents in this position operate a wide variety of equipment of construction projects for city streets, parks and utilities.

One year of experience in the operation of heavy construction equipment such as crawler loaders, backhoes, bulldozers, wheel loaders, and related equipment. OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.
License: Incumbents must possess and maintain a valid Missouri CDL (Class A or B) while employed by the City of St. Louis. Candidates that have a CDL permit at the time of hire must obtain a valid CDL (Class A or B) as a condition of successfully completing their working test period. Some positions may require incumbents with a CDL (Class B) to obtain and maintain a valid CDL A with X (Hazmat and Tanker) endorsement within six months of appointment. Please note type of license, number, class, expiration date, and State where issued on the Employment Application. At the Performance Test, applicants who do not possess a Missouri CDL or CDL permit must present a "Driving Record Check" from their State's Department of Motor Vehicles.
When completing the Employment Application, please be as thorough as possible when describing your experience, training and education relating to the operation and maintenance of heavy construction equipment and types of equipment operated. Include reasons for changes in employers and explain gaps in employment. Resumes will not be accepted as a substitute to a fully completed application. MEDICAL: The pre-employment medical exam will include a drug/alcohol screen and subsequent random drug/alcohol testing in accordance with D.O.T. regulations.
VETERAN'S PREFERENCE POINTS: To be eligible for veteran's preference points, the applicant must submit a copy of his/her DD 214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty with the Employment Application or at the time of the Performance Test. The Director of Personnel may, in his discretion, accept alternate documentation.
