Nature of Work
Incumbents in this position perform field work to search for water leaks in underground, residential and commercial water lines and respond to complaints and inquiries regarding problems with the water distribution system. Duties include using leak detection/location equipment, maps and plats to identify leaks and perform leak inspections, pressure and flow investigations and shutting off water; inspecting valve and meter boxes and inspecting and flushing fire hydrants. A high school diploma or General Educational Development (G.E.D.) certificate; plus two years of experience in: water or sewer line construction, repairing water distribution systems, or experience as a pipelayer, plumber, or drain layer; OR two years of experience locating water mains and water main breaks using leak detection and leak location equipment; OR, an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
License: Must possess and maintain a valid Missouri driver's license while employed by the City of St. Louis. Must possess a valid driver's license at the time of filing application and be able to present it at the time of the Performance Test. Please note type of license, number, class and expiration date on the Employment Application. Applicants who do not possess a Missouri driver's license will be required to present a "Driving Record Check" from their State's Department of Motor Vehicles.
A limited number of applicants may be scheduled for the Oral Interview based on an evaluation of their qualifying education, training and experience as listed on the Employment Application. Include reasons for changes in employers and explain any gaps in employment. Resumes will not be accepted as a substitute to a fully completed application. Incomplete and/or carelessly completed applications will not be considered.
MEDICAL: Candidates will be required to pass a “Drug Screen Test” as part of the medical examination.
VETERAN'S PREFERENCE POINTS: To be eligible for veteran's preference points, the applicant must submit a copy of his/her DD 214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty with the Employment Application or at the time of the Performance Test. The Director of Personnel may, in his discretion, accept alternate documentation.
