Nature of Work
Incumbents in this position perform mechanical maintenance duties that include maintaining equipment and systems for heating, ventilating, air conditioning and plumbing. Examples of duties include performing preventative maintenance to equipment; installing equipment such as boilers, air handlers, exhaust fans, plumbing fixtures, motors, pumps, filter tanks, radiators, chillers, compressors, valves, piping, fittings and sewer systems and performing routine electrical repairs. A high school diploma or General Educational Development (G.E.D.) certificate; plus four years of experience installing, repairing, and maintaining high and low pressure steam boilers and pumping systems, air handling equipment or other related mechanical equipment. Completion of a skilled trades training program in HVAC or plumbing may substitute for two years of the required experience. OR, an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
License: Must possess and maintain a valid Missouri driver's license while employed by the City of St. Louis. Must possess a valid driver's license at the time of filing application and be able to present it at the Oral Interview. Please note type of license, number, class and expiration date on the Employment Application. Applicants who do not possess a Missouri driver's license will be required to present a "Driving Record Check" from their State's Department of Motor Vehicles.
Documentation of academic credentials and/or proof of completion of a bona fide apprenticeship program registered with the Department of Labor and journeyman status (if applicable) must be submitted at the time of the Oral Interview.

MEDICAL: Candidates will be required to pass a "Drug Screen" as part of the medical examination.

The Director of Personnel may, in his discretion, accept alternate documentation.
