Nature of Work
Incumbents in this position are responsible for reading, recording and assessing water meter information. A high school diploma or General Educational Development (G.E.D.) certificate; plus graduation from a recognized trade school or apprenticeship program in a related mechanical trade; OR two years of experience reading meters for a public utility; OR two years of experience constructing/repairing water utility distribution systems; OR two years of experience repairing meters, gauges or similar mechanical equipment; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
License: Must possess and maintain a valid Missouri driver's license while employed by the City of St. Louis. Must possess a valid driver's license at the time of filing application and be able to present it at the time of the Performance Test. Please note type of license, number, class and expiration date on the Employment Application. Applicants who do not possess a Missouri driver's license will be required to present a "Driving Record Check" from their State's Department of Motor Vehicles.
Official proof of completion of a recognized trade school or apprenticeship program (if applicable) must be submitted with the Employment Application or at the time of the Performance Test.
A limited number of applicants may be scheduled for the Performance Test based on an evaluation of their qualifying education, training and experience as listed on the Employment Application. Include reasons for changes in employers and explain any gaps in employment. Resumes will not be accepted as a substitute to a fully completed application. Incomplete and/or carelessly completed applications will not be considered.
MEDICAL: Candidates will be required to pass a “Drug Screen Test” as part of the medical examination.
VETERAN'S PREFERENCE POINTS: To be eligible for veteran's preference points, the applicant must submit a copy of his/her DD 214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty with the Employment Application or at the time of the Performance Test. The Director of Personnel may, in his discretion, accept alternate documentation.
