Nature of Work
Incumbents in this position are responsible for enforcing compliance with air pollution regulations through inspection, investigation, and issuance of violation notices. A Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or a related field; plus at least one year of experience in air pollution control. Qualifying experience must include at least one year of full-time experience in asbestos abatement work or in general construction work. OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
License: Must possess and maintain a valid Missouri driver’s license while employed by the City of St. Louis. Must possess a valid driver's license at the time of filing application and be able to present it at the Oral Interview. Please note type of license, number, class and expiration date on the Employment Application. Applicants who do not possess a Missouri driver's license must present a "Driving Record Check" from their State's Department of Motor Vehicles.
Certification: Must be able to obtain certification as a licensed Asbestos Inspector and Asbestos Contractor/Supervisor in within 11 months of hire as a condition of successfully completing working test period.
Documentation of academic credentials must be submitted with the Employment Application or at the time of the Oral Interview.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor's degree in a physical science curriculum which includes at least 30 hours of basic science coursework. Certification as an Asbestos Inspector and/or Asbestos Contractor Supervisor and previous experience enforcing air pollution regulations.
A limited number of applicants may be scheduled for the Oral Interview based on an evaluation of their qualifying education, training and experience as listed on the Employment Application. Resumes will not be accepted as a substitute to a fully completed application. Include reasons for changes in employers and explain any gaps in employment. Incomplete and/or carelessly completed applications will not be considered.
VETERAN'S PREFERENCE POINTS: To be eligible for veteran's preference points, the applicant must submit a copy of his/her DD 214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty with the Employment Application or at the time of the Oral Interview. The Director of Personnel may, in his discretion, accept alternate documentation.
