Normal entry salary is $35,048.
Shift differential of 1% is paid for evening, night and weekend shifts.
Nature of Work
Incumbents in this position are responsible for supervising correctional officers and performing correctional officer duties in either the St. Louis City Justice Center (CJC) or the Medium Security Institution (MSI).

A high school diploma or General Educational Development (G.E.D.) certificate; plus three years of experience as a Correctional Officer with a federal, state, or local facility; OR an Associate’s degree or completion of at least sixty college credit hours with coursework equivalent to an Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement or a closely related field; plus one year of experience as a Correctional Officer with a federal, state, or local facility; OR an equivalent combination of education, training or experience.
In order to be considered for this position applicants must be available to work all shifts which includes days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays and to work at the assigned City Correctional institution. When necessary, Correctional Officers must be able to work mandatory overtime. Candidates must provide their availability for shift and weekend assignments on the Availability Section of the Employment Application.
Documentation of academic credentials must be submitted at the time of the Oral Interview.

MEDICAL: Candidates will be required to pass a "Drug Screen" as part of the Medical examination. Incumbents are subject to random Drug Screen and Alcohol Tests as a condition of their employment.
VETERAN'S PREFERENCE POINTS: To be eligible for veteran's preference points, the applicant must submit a copy of his/her DD 214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty with the Employment Application or at the time of the Oral Interview. The Director of Personnel may, in his discretion, accept alternate documentation.
