Nature of Work

Incumbents in this position are responsible for supervising public health nurses and related personnel within a bureau of the Department of Health. Duties include: planning, organizing, and directing work activities of subordinate staff; assisting with needs assessments, strategic planning, development and oversight for programs within the department and with community partners, completing administrative reports and giving presentations on public health topics.  Work involves some evening and weekend assignments and requires the use of a personal vehicle.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of nursing; plus two years as a nursing supervisor in an educational, public, or community setting. A Master’s degree in Nursing or Public Health may substitute for one year of the experience requirement. OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

LicensesMust be licensed by the Missouri State Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse or a state having reciprocity with the state of Missouri at the time of filing application. Must maintain licensure by the Missouri State Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse while employed by the City of St. Louis.  Must possess and maintain a valid Missouri driver's license while employed by the City of St. Louis.  Must possess a valid driver's license at the time of filing application. Applicants who do not possess a Missouri driver's license will be required to present a "Driving Record Check" from their State's Department of Motor Vehicles at the Oral Interview. Please note type of licenses, numbers, class and expiration dates on the Employment Application.

Documentation of academic credentials and nursing license must be submitted at the time of the Oral Interview.

A limited number of applicants may be scheduled for the Oral Interview based on an evaluation of their qualifying education, training and experience as listed on the Employment Application.  Include reasons for changes in employers and explain any gaps in employment history.  Incomplete and/or carelessly completed applications will not be considered.  Resumes will not be accepted as a substitute to a fully completed application.
