Nature of Work
Incumbents in this position are responsible for planning and supervising field inspections of plumbing installations for code compliance and interpreting plumbing codes. Duties include: supervising plumbing inspectors; making periodic inspections of commercial and industrial job sites; reviewing plans and specifications for plumbing installations, repairs and modifications and resolving disagreements between inspectors and contractors over the interpretation of plumbing codes.

Ten years of experience as a licensed journeyman plumber performing inspections of commercial and/or industrial plumbing installations to insure compliance with plumbing codes and related regulations; OR ten years of experience as a licensed general plumbing contractor working with all varieties of plumbing construction including commercial and industrial properties. Experience must include at least two years of supervisory experience. OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Licenses: Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Journeyman or Master Plumber in the City of St. Louis at the time of filing application. In order to apply for licensure, applicants must have completed an apprenticeship program or have a certificate of completion in plumbing technology from a certified trade or technical institute. Proof of Journeyman or Master Plumber licensure or eligibility to apply for licensure must be submitted at the time of the Oral Interview. Must possess and maintain a valid Missouri driver’s license while employed by the City of St. Louis. Must possess a valid driver's license at the time of filing application and be able to present license at the time of the Oral Interview. Please note type of license, number, class, and expiration date on the Employment Application. Applicants who do not possess a Missouri driver's license will be required to present a "Driving Record Check" from their State's Department of Motor Vehicles at the time of the Oral Interview.
A limited number of applicants may be scheduled for the Oral Interview based on an evaluation of their experience and training as listed on the Employment Application. Complete the Employment History and Educational/Training History sections of the Employment Application even if you submit a resume. Resumes will not be accepted as a substitute to a fully completed application. When completing the Employment History section of the application, include reasons for changes in employers and explain any gaps in employment. Incomplete and/or carelessly completed applications will not be considered.
