Nature of Work
Incumbents in this trainee position work alongside Water System Inspectors responsible for performing field work searching for water leaks in underground, residential and commercial water lines and responding to complaints and inquiries regarding problems with the water distribution system. Duties may include assisting with using leak detection/location equipment, maps and plats for identifying leaks and performing leak inspections, pressure and flow investigations and shutting off water; inspecting valve and meter boxes and inspecting and flushing fire hydrants.

One year of experience in construction or skilled trades work. OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.
License: Must possess and maintain a valid Missouri driver's license while employed by the City of St. Louis. Must possess a valid driver's license at the time of filing application and be able to present it at the time of the Oral Interview. Please note type of license, number, class and expiration date on the Employment Application. Applicants who do not possess a Missouri driver's license will be required to present a "Driving Record Check" from their State's Department of Motor Vehicles.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Some previous experience working in water or sewer line construction for repairing water distribution systems; or previous experience as a pipelayer, plumber, or drain layer; or previous experience locating water mains and water main breaks using leak detection and leak location equipment.

MEDICAL: Candidates will be required to pass a "Drug Screen" as part of the medical examination.
