Nature of Work

Incumbents in this position are responsible for directing and coordinating the operations of the Civilian Oversight Board of the City of St. Louis, including the management and supervision of investigative and administrative staff assigned to the unit. Duties will include coordinating the activities of the Civilian Oversight Board; overseeing preparation of reports and recommendations; serving as liaison between the Civilian Oversight Board Members, the Director of the Department of Public Safety, the Office of the Mayor, the City Counselor's Office, the Board of Alderman, the Police Division and the community.

Minimum Qualifications

 A Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice  Administration, Law Enforcement, Public Safety Management, Social Science or a closely related field; plus four years of  experience in the field of public or private administration conducting investigations, or in the practice of law. Qualifying experience must include management or employee supervision. OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Documentation of academic credentials must be submitted with the Employment Application or at the time of the Oral Interview.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:  Juris Doctorate or PhD

Complete the Employment History and Educational/Training History sections of the Employment Application even if you submit a resume. Resumes will not be accepted as a substitute to a fully completed application. Incomplete and/or carelessly completed applications will not be considered.

VETERAN'S PREFERENCE POINTS:  To be eligible for veteran's preference points, the applicant must submit a copy of his/her DD 214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty with the Employment Application or at the time of the Oral Interview.  The Director of Personnel may, in his discretion, accept alternate documentation.
