Salary

STARTING ANNUAL SALARY:  $47,815.30 

Upon successful completion of his/her working test period and being granted permanent status, a Probationary Fire Equipment Dispatcher shall receive a title change to Fire Equipment Dispatcher.

The eligible list for this position will be used to fill both permanent and per performance positions. Per performance positions do not require City residency and are not covered by the Employee Benefits Program. Per performance positions are paid $22.99 on an hourly basis.

Nature of Work

Incumbents in this position receive and evaluate telephone calls for fire equipment services and dispatch appropriate emergency response personnel to the scene. Positions require shift, weekend and holiday assignments and some mandatory overtime assignments. Candidates must provide their availability for shift and weekend assignments on the Availability Section of the Employment Application.

Minimum Qualifications

A high school diploma or General Educational Development (G.E.D.) certificate; plus one year of recent full-time paid dispatching experience; OR one year of customer service experience in a call center work environment.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:  Previous experience as a Police, Fire, or EMS Dispatcher.

MEDICAL:  Candidates will be required to pass a "Drug Screen" as part of the Medical examination.   Incumbents are subject to random Drug Screen and Alcohol Tests as a condition of their employment.

VETERAN'S PREFERENCE POINTS:  To be eligible for veteran's preference points, the applicant must submit a copy of his/her DD 214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty with the Employment Application.  The Director of Personnel may, in his discretion, accept alternate documentation.
