Nature of Work
Incumbents in this position are responsible for interviewing and evaluating residents of the City’s Medium Security Institution and City Justice Center for determining security placement and social, psychological, and substance abuse counseling needs. Duties include: identifying casework needs and recording referrals and services provided; orienting new residents to institutional rules and expectations; providing crisis counseling; and conducting disciplinary hearings and reviewing disciplinary reports for adherence to due process.

An Associate’s degree in Corrections, Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Social Services or a closely related field; plus two years of experience in substance abuse counseling or similar rehabilitative activities in community outreach programs or in a correctional environment. OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
License: Must possess and maintain a valid Missouri driver's license while employed by the City of St. Louis. Must possess a valid driver’s license at the time of filing application and be able to present it upon request. Please note type of license, number, class and expiration date on the Employment Application. Applicants who do not possess a Missouri driver's license will be required to present a "Driving Record Check" from their State's Department of Motor Vehicles.
