Nature of Work
Incumbents in this position are responsible for planning, organizing and administering the Department of Health’s Bureau of Environmental Health programs. Responsibilities include long-range planning, developing, implementing and monitoring of strategic plans for the following programs: Food and Beverage Control, Air Pollution Control, Community Sanitation, Animal Care and Control, Vector Control, and Emergency Preparedness and Response/Severe Weather and Community Resilience.

A Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Environmental Health, Biological Sciences, Industrial Hygiene or a related field which includes at least 30 hours of basic science coursework and a math or statistics class; plus five years of professional public health experience that includes at least one year of environmental health experience. OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
License: Must possess and maintain a valid Missouri driver's license while employed by the City of St. Louis. Must possess a valid driver's license at the time of filing application. Please note type of license, number, class and expiration date on the Employment Application.
Certification: Must be able to obtain Registered Environmental Health Specialist/Registered Sanitarian Certification from the National Environmental Health Association within 11 months of hire as a condition of successfully completing working test period. Incumbents must also successfully complete training in Hotel, Motel and Childcare License Inspections, Certified Pool Operator Inspections and Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) during working test period.
Documentation of academic credentials and driver’s license must be submitted upon request.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: A Master's degree in a closely related field and previous supervisory/managerial experience. Knowledgeable in NIMS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800, 808b.
