Bi-Weekly Pay Rate $1,468.00

Police Dispatcher (Trainees) shall receive the bi-weekly Trainee rate of $1,468.00 and serve in a working test (probationary) period. Upon completion of their working test period and being granted permanent status, Police Dispatcher (Trainees) shall receive a title change to Police Dispatcher II and the bi-weekly rate of $1,551.

Nature of Work

Incumbents receive and evaluate telephone calls in the Police Division’s 9-1-1 call center, dispatch police units, redirect calls to EMS Dispatch, Fire Equipment Dispatch or other agencies and perform R.E.J.I.S (Regional Justice Information System) and M.U.L.E.S. (Missouri Uniform Law Enforcement System) searches for missing and wanted/warrant vehicle and person records. Positions require shift, weekend, holiday and mandatory overtime assignments. Applicants must provide their availability for shift and weekend assignments on the Availability section of the Employment Application. A shift differential is paid for evening and night work.

Minimum Qualifications

One year of dispatching experience; OR, one year of experience in emergency public safety services; OR, one year of customer service experience in a call center work environment; OR, an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. 

Certification:  As part of the character investigation, applicants must meet the minimum screening requirements for certification to access the REJIS and MULES Criminal Justice Information Systems within 60 days of appointment.  Incumbents must maintain said certifications while employed by the City of St. Louis.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:  Previous experience as a Police, Fire, or EMS Dispatcher.

A limited number of applicants may be scheduled for the Oral Interview based on an evaluation of their qualifying education, training and experience as listed on the Employment Application.  Resumes will not be accepted as a substitute to a fully completed application.  When completing the Employment History section of the application, include reasons for changes in employers and explain any gaps in employment.  Incomplete and/or carelessly completed applications will not be considered. 

MEDICAL: Upon acceptance of a job offer, candidates will be required to pass an oral swab Drug Screen Test and Physical Examination and successfully complete a Psychological Examination as part of the Medical examination procedure. Police Dispatchers are subject to random Drug Screen and Alcohol Tests without advance notice as a condition of their employment.

VETERAN'S PREFERENCE POINTS: To be eligible for veteran's preference points, the applicant must submit a copy of his/her DD 214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty with the Employment Application. The Director of Personnel may, in his discretion, accept alternate documentation.
