Position Specifications

Incumbents in this position are responsible for overseeing the work of Animal Care and Control Officers and Pest Control Workers in the field, kennel and office in order to uphold laws and regulations pertaining to pet ownership, and promote volunteer and developmental activities to encourage the humane treatment of animals. Duties include developing, implementing, and enforcing protocols and procedures for animal control field operations and vector control operations; working with local, state, and federal agencies and community organizations to enforce regulations and provide services; and performing on-call supervisor duties as assigned as well as participating in the incident command system and responding to Department of Health emergencies.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science or a closely related field; plus one year of supervisory experience in an animal control or welfare agency, a veterinary clinic, private kennel, or animal care business handling a high volume of animal traffic. OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

License:  Must possess and maintain a valid Missouri driver's license while employed by the City of St. Louis. Please note type of license, number, class and expiration date on the Employment Application.

CITY RESIDENTS PREFERENCE POINTS: City residents who pass an examination for a position in the classified service and do not receive any other preference will receive a five (5) point preference on a scale of 100 points on the exam. An additional one (1) point shall be added to the passing score of City residents who receive any other preference on a scale of 100 points.  City residents must have resided in the City for at least one (1) year at the time of filing their application to be eligible for the preference points.
