Position Specifications

Incumbents in this position are responsible for providing legal advice and representation to boards, commissions, officials, departments, and employees on a wide variety of legal matters, including but not limited to labor and employment, administrative law, contracts, criminal law, constitutional law, civil rights, property, compliance, legislation, claims and litigation, and statutory actions. Duties include drafting and reviewing contracts, leases, ordinances, resolutions, policies, procedures, and other transactional, legislative, and administrative documents in compliance with state, federal, and local laws; and preparing for and attending public meetings, reviewing board bills as well as providing representation at administrative hearings.

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from a school of law approved by the Committee on Legal Education of the American Bar Association; current membership in the Missouri Bar in good standing or licensure in another state with eligibility for reciprocity in Missouri; plus two years of legal practice in one of the above areas.

Documentation of license to practice law must be submitted with the Employment Application or upon request.

Your employment experience and training will be used to determine whether you meet the entrance requirements for this position and to compute your experience and training evaluation. VETERAN'S PREFERENCE POINTS:  To be eligible for veteran's preference points, the applicant must submit a copy of their DD 214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty with the Employment Application or upon request. The Director of Personnel may, in their discretion, accept alternate documentation.

CITY RESIDENTS PREFERENCE POINTS: City residents who pass an examination for a position in the classified service and do not receive any other preference will receive a five (5) point preference on a scale of 100 points on the exam. An additional one (1) point shall be added to the passing score of City residents who receive any other preference on a scale of 100 points.  City residents must have resided in the City for at least one (1) year at the time of filing their application to be eligible for the preference points.
