Historic District or Landmark Complaints
The Cultural Resources Office makes every effort to enforce the Standards for each historic district. Whether we receive a complaint directly at our office or forwarded from the Citizen's Service Bureau, our staff inspects the property within 24 hours. If a violation is found, we issue a letter of citation to the property owner, who then has 30 days to respond. In a situation where a property may be about to suffer serious damage, a Stop Work Order may be issued.
The property owner has 30 days to apply for a permit for the work. If they neglect to do so, they will be referred to Housing Court. The Office tries to work with all applicants to bring their projects into compliance with the relevant Standards for the District or Landmark.
If you see work that you think may not comply with your District Standards, please tell us, or file a complaint with the Citizens Service Bureau.
