Intake Water Tower #1
Intake Water Tower #1 - City Landmark #41
Constructed in 1894, William Eames designed the tower in a Richardsonian Romanesque style. Tower #1 is located close to the Missouri shore just south of the Chain of Rocks Bridge. Intake #1 has been compared to the famous Moure Tower in the Rhine near Bingen, Germany. Intake Tower #1 was not meeting the rising demand for water in the City of St. Louis and a second intake was built in 1913.
