In collaboration with the Financial Planning Association (FPA) of Greater St. Louis, the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) Board of Standards, the Foundation for Financial Planning, mayor Francis G. Slay and the U.S. Conference of Mayors, the St. Louis Agency on Training and Employment (SLATE) announces a newly developed Financial Literacy workshop. The program will coincide with Financial Planning Day, the annual national financial education campaign, and is designed to help St. Louis residents currently drawing Missouri Unemployment Insurance (UI) to survive on reduced income while looking for employment.

The workshop will be held on October 25 at 2 p.m., at SLATE Career Center's Central West End location, 4811 Delmar Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63108.

The workshop is a first-of-its kind effort to involve city governments and thousands of financial planners nationwide to provide no-cost financial education and programs to communities throughout the U.S. "The willingness of so many financial experts to generously donate their time and expertise to help St. Louis City residents is greatly appreciated," states Mayor Slay.

Participants will learn to manage their money under the constraints of a tight budget and achieve financial peace of mind in a situation of overall economic uncertainty. Attendees will evaluate their assets and liabilities, identify spending habits, develop a financial plan based on their priorities, and work out a real-life budget. Those in need of further advice can participate in a Question & Answer session immediately following the workshop. The workshop is available to all individuals enrolled in the SLATE Career Center system, not just UI claimants.

As with all workshops offered at SLATE Career Center, the Financial Planning Day Workshop is free of charge. Although the enrollment for this workshop is currently closed, interested individuals may come to any SLATE office, either Downtown or Central West End, and ask about the next available session.
