Groundbreaking

St. Louis, MO– St. Louis-based Equis Hotels broke ground on its latest Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott. The $20+ million hotel and parking garage project will make a significant contribution to the ongoing revitalization of the Downtown-West area of the City of St. Louis. The hotel is slated to open early in 2020, and will create an important addition to the region’s hospitality offerings. Equis’ new Fairfield Inn will be unique as it will be the first, ground up Marriott select service hotel to be built in the City of St. Louis’ downtown market in decades.

Michael Mullenix, Equis Hotels Chief Executive Officer and Founder stated, “This hotel will now capture the traditional Marriott hotel customer seeking a true, ground-up Marriott select service hotel brand downtown. It will provide a quality offering so that guests do not have to travel outside of downtown to satisfy their lodging needs. This is the exact same strategy we used when we developed and built the only true extended stay hotel in the downtown market literally right across I-64 from this site in 2005 with our then new Residence Inn by Marriott hotel.”

He added, “Our new Fairfield Inn hotel will not only serve the existing hotel demand generators in the city, but it will definitely accommodate the exciting growth now taking place in the City of St. Louis, including the new $600 million Saint Louis University hospital project and the new $1.6 billion National Geo-Spatial Intelligence or NGA headquarters campus currently under construction just a mile north of our site.”

Otis Williams, Executive Director of the St. Louis Development Corporation stated, “It’s exciting to see the redevelopment this part of downtown St. Louis and the addition of a new Fairfield Inn hotel to the downtown St. Louis market. The construction of this hotel and its proximity to both the NGA site and the new developments of SLU hospital make it a great addition to the area. We welcome the Fairfield to St. Louis.”

Peak Construction Group is serving as the construction manager, HBD/KAI is the general contractor for the new hotel. Chiodini Architects is the project architect and local financing is being provided by Royal Banks of Missouri. This marks the start of the 17th new, ground-up hotel the company has developed which speaks a great deal to the strength of the Fairfield brand and to the power of a hotel being affiliated with Marriott International, Inc., the largest hotel company in the world.

The new hotel will feature 136 rooms and suites, 2,000 square feet of meeting rooms, a lobby lounge and bar and an outpics of the sitedoor patio gathering space while offering travelers convenient access to downtown businesses and attractions. The new Fairfield Inn will fill a void in the downtown St. Louis market, giving today’s travelers what they are looking for — a modern, Marriott-branded property suitable for both business and leisure travelers.
