Buy Reused and Recycled Products

Reusing and recycling provide many environmental, economic, and health benefits.  However, there must be a consumer demand for the products made from reused and/or recycled materials in order to close the recycling loop.  When you buy products made from reused and/or recycled materials, you are driving the market for the materials you place in your recycling bin.

Check the labels when you shop and choose product that are made from or packaged in recycled content materials.  Look for the highest percentage of post-consumer recycled content.  Post-consumer means that material has been used by the consumer, collected in a recycling program, and made into new products.  Some products may contain only pre-consumer or post-industrial waste, which means it's made from factory cuttings, trimmings, overruns, and other waste from the manufacturing process.  While it's important to minimize manufacturing waste, choosing post-consumer recycled products ensures there are markets for the materials YOU recycle.
