TITLE: Public Relations Assistant

REPORTS TO: Communications Director


Employees in this classification are responsible for assisting with developing, managing, and executing internal and external marketing and communication strategies to the staff of the Treasurer’s Office and targeted audiences.


Bachelor’s degree in communications or related field with five plus years of experience. Preferable experience in communications management. Proficient in graphic design and video editing. Ability to adapt to constant change and fast-paced, deadline-oriented environments. Growth-oriented mindset; ability to collaborate with others, balance taking initiative with taking direction, and be a team player. Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and social media platforms. Experience with mass marketing platforms including Content Management Systems (CMS), HTML and WordPress. Excellent writing/editing and verbal communication skills. Ability to prioritize and follow through effectively. Accurate and attentive to detail. Ability to analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, and implement recommendations in support of goals. Ability to operate personal vehicle for business and possess a current valid Missouri or Illinois driver’s license and insurance.


Manages communications content to ensure it is aligned with the Treasurer’s Office/OFE/Parking Divisions and the Communication Director’s strategic communications plan. Assists with the development of content for the Treasurer’s Office/OFE online media channels, including video, graphics, and copy. Assists in drafting remarks and talking points for Treasurer’s speaking engagements. Assists with media interactions that help promote and/or impact the Treasurer’s Office. Assists with managing press relationships to ensure coverage of issues of strategic importance to the Treasurer’s Office in coordination with and at the direction of the Communications Director, including press conferences, videos, photos, social media, etc. Assists with management of relationships with communications-related vendors or consultants. Assists with management of relationships with other employees or partners of the Treasurer’s Office/OFE/Parking Division for communications projects. Responds to and resolves difficult and sensitive citizen inquiries and complaints. Assist with researching and drafting public reports related to the work and priorities of the Treasurer’s Office/OFE/Parking Division. Other duties as may be assigned by supervisor or Treasurer’s Office management.
