Nature of Work

Incumbents in this position are responsible for planning and managing appraisal activities and supervisors within an assigned specialty such as residential or commercial property. Duties include planning, coordinating and directing the biennial assessment of all commercial and large residential real estate to meet statutory and administrative  deadlines;  coordinating appraisal documentation to defend valuations in appeals; representing the Assessor's Office in appeals to the Board of Equalization and the Missouri State Tax Commission; overseeing all tax abatements and exemptions and interacting with other departments and agencies in establishing and monitoring all Community Improvement Districts, Special Business Districts and Tax Increment Financing redevelopments.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in Business or Public Administration, Accounting, or related field; plus five years of experience in assessment administration, property appraisal/valuation or a related field, including two years of supervisory experience.  OR an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

License: Must possess and maintain a valid Missouri driver's license while employed by the City of St. Louis.  Must possess a valid driver's license at the time of filing application and be able to present it at the Oral Interview.  Please note type of license, number, class and expiration date on the Employment Application. 

Documentation of academic credentials must be submitted at the time of the Oral Interview.

A limited number of applicants may be scheduled for the Oral Interview based on an evaluation of their qualifying education, training and experience as listed on the Employment Application When completing the Employment History section of the application, include reasons for changes in employers and explain any gaps in employment.  Incomplete and/or carelessly completed applications will not be considered.
