Nature of Work

Incumbents in this position report to the Fire Alarm Manager and are responsible for scheduling and supervising the work of employees engaged in the dispatching of emergency medical units, ambulances, and other vehicles from a centralized communications office. Duties include reviewing department logging records daily; investigating all incidents or complaints from the public involving dispatching services; inspecting and ensuring proper functioning of EMS two-way radios, dispatching consoles, logging recorder, encoder, multi-line telephone and other operations center equipment; approving all duty assignments and leave requests; and monitoring employees work performance.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Management, or a related field; plus two years of experience as an Emergency Medical Services Dispatcher; OR four years as an Emergency Medical Service Dispatcher with the City of St. Louis and current status as a Lead Emergency Medical Service Dispatcher. Experience must include the use of a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system used by public safety agencies and knowledge of radio and telephone communications system. OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

CITY RESIDENTS PREFERENCE POINTS: City residents who pass an examination for a position in the classified service and do not receive any other preference will receive a five (5) point preference on a scale of 100 points on the exam. An additional one (1) point shall be added to the passing score of City residents who receive any other preference on a scale of 100 points. City residents must have resided in the City for at least one (1) year at the time of filing their application to be eligible for the preference points.
