Nature of Work
Incumbents in this position are responsible for investigating facts and circumstances for civil claims against the City and City personnel, specifically regarding Police Officers and/or Corrections officials. Duties include conducting thorough investigations into complaints, interviewing witnesses and subjects and preparing reports detailing the investigative findings; conducting community outreach, making public presentations, and discussing the goals of the Civilian Oversight Board; managing and organizing investigative case filing systems; and providing direction and training to coworkers as needed.

An Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, Legal Studies, or a directly related field; plus two years of experience conducting field investigations dealing with legal issues. Qualifying experience must indicate considerable knowledge of investigative techniques and procedures, knowledge of rules of evidence and court procedures, knowledge of legal terminology, skill in locating, analyzing and organizing facts and evidence, and skill in oral and written communications. OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
License: Must possess and maintain a valid Missouri driver's license while employed by the City of St. Louis. Please note type of license, number, class and expiration date on the Employment Application.

CITY RESIDENTS PREFERENCE POINTS: City residents who pass an examination for a position in the classified service and do not receive any other preference will receive a five (5) point preference on a scale of 100 points on the exam. An additional one (1) point shall be added to the passing score of City residents who receive any other preference on a scale of 100 points. City residents must have resided in the City for at least one (1) year at the time of filing their application to be eligible for the preference points.
