Position Specifications
The Records Custodian is responsible for requests for Medical Examiner records. This position exercises considerable independent judgement, and professional and technical skills in the continuous review of requests for Medical Examiner documents. The Records Custodian is under the immediate Supervision of the Executive Secretary to the Chief Medical Examiner.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES:
The Records Custodian is responsible for responding to requests for the release of Medical Examiner records. The ability to communicate and interact with family members, funeral service professionals, law enforcement and other agencies is essential. He/she will be responsible for a wide variety of duties, including but not limited to: data entry, editing and filing reports, copying, scanning, faxing, mailing, collect/process transcript payments and receipts, and cremation authorizations. He/she will be responsible for processing public record requests for Medical Examiner records through the GovQA portal.
Minimum Qualifications
The Records Custodian must be proficient in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Word, Excel and Adobe. He/she will be responsible for case management and must complete assignments accurately within specified timeframes. This position requires he/she physically perform the essential functions of the job including the ability to lift and move file boxes. Intermediate knowledge must include medical terminology. Funeral service background is preferred, but not
required.
The position requires he/she maintain the confidentiality and integrity of information; and communicate effectively orally and in writing. Strong attention to detail, telephone, typing, and computer skills are a necessity. He/she should have the ability to communicate and work effectively in an environment with frequent interruptions requiring the ability to concentrate and consistently produce work while responding to interruptions and changing priorities.
The Records Custodian must work as a team player and pick up additional tasks as needed in this busy urban Medical Examiner’s Office. He/she must maintain good communication with all members of the office. He/she will be expected to attend training as directed by the Chief Medical Examiner and Executive Director for Operations.
