ST. LOUIS PUBLIC LIBRARY CELEBRATES OLDER AMERICANS MONTH THROUGHOUT MAY

 

The St. Louis Public Library is proud to host programs throughout May in celebration of Older Americans Month 2015.  The national theme this year is Get Into the Actwhich focuses on how older adults are taking charge of their health, getting involved in their communities, and making a positive impact in the lives of others.

This year the Library's Older Americans Month programming includes:

 

* Senior Film SeriesMay's theme is "Hollywood High: Teen Movies From Ages Past."  Films are shown at the Buder Branch, 4401 Hampton Ave., every Wednesday in May from 1:30-3:30 p.m.

 

* Senior Jeopardy!Seniors play from five categories with ten questions from each category. Categories include St. Louis Trivia, Movie Stars From the Golden Era, Fashion of the 1940s, Favorite Singers of the '40s &'50s, and Dances of the '40s &'50s. Prize awarded to the senior with the most correct answers at the Carpenter Branch, 3309 S. Grand Blvd.,on May 2 at 2 p.m.

 

* To Your HealthOASIS presents nutrition information. Q&A session follows at the Cabanne Branch, 1106 Union Blvd.,on May 13 at 12:30 p.m.

 

* Retirement and Medicare 101A Social Security representative answers questions and concerns about retirement, survivor's benefits, and Medicare. Information about Social Security's online services will be highlighted, and participants can create a "My Social Security" accountat the Barr Branch, 1701 S. Jefferson Ave.,on May 13 at 1 p.m.

* Aromatherapy BasicsMs. Preston presents the basics of aromatherapy. Participants can make do-it-yourself aromatherapy products (room/linen spray, body oil, or sugar scrub) at the Kingshighway Branch, 2260 S. Vandeventer Ave.,on May 13 at 4 p.m.

* Storytelling in SongOriginal songs by singer-songwriter Gary Schoenberger at the Machacek Branch, 6424 Scanlan Ave.,on May 15 at 11:30 a.m.

* How to Price and Value Vinyl RecordsTom "Papa" Ray of Vintage Vinyl explains prices, pressings, and a vinyl record's physical condition at the Julia Davis Branch, 4415 Natural Bridge Ave.,on May 23 at 1 p.m.

* Carondelet: Then and NowSee how the Carondelet neighborhood has changed over the years. Features photos from the Carondelet History File as well as more recent imagesat the Carondelet Branch, 6800 Michigan Ave.,on May 23 at 11 a.m.

* Financial Empowerment Workshop: Money Matters: Wills, Trusts, and ProbateBe the boss of your budget and improve your finances with Money Smarts! Presented by the Schlafly Branch and Fifth Third Bank at the Schlafly Branch, 225 N. Euclid Ave.,on May 27 at 5:30 p.m.

* Seniors MixerDance away the afternoon with DJ Bill playing an eclectic mix of Big Band, Motown, and Contemporary. Plus, fun activities in the Galleryat the Schlafly Branch, 225 N. Euclid Ave.,on May 30 at 2 p.m.
