From the City of St. Louis Sustainability News, July 2016 edition:

Along with free concerts in the park, neighborhood festivals and thunderstorms, summer can also mean mosquito season.  The pesky bugs are always annoying, but this year we all need to take extra precautions to stop the spread of Zika virus.  The City of St. Louis has launched a Fight the Bite campaign.  Follow these precautions (the Four Ds) when you can:  drain water, dress in long clothes, use DEET or other repellents to repel mosquitoes, and take special care at dawn and dusk.

In addition, you may want to consider alternative ways to fight the bite, such as providing a habitat for animals which like to eat mosquitoes.  There are many mosquito predators.  While bats, birds, and turtles may help reduce the mosquito population, be sure to also follow the "Four Ds" listed above for adequate protection.
