Silver Haired Legislature

Advocacy Day & Elections

April 1, 2012 | 2 min reading time

The St. Louis City’s Silver Haired Legislature (SHL) visited Jefferson City on March 6, 2012, for their annual Advocacy Day.  The day began with the annual board meeting, where delegates heard speeches by Lt. Governor Peter Kinder, Rep. Ed Schieffer, Rep. Margo McNeil, Rep. Scott Sifton, and Rep. Jill Schupp.  Afterwards, board members and delegates had the opportunity to meet directly with their state representatives and senators to advocate and promote legislation on behalf of older adults in Missouri.

Through community meetings and events, annual legislative sessions, and advocacy days, the Silver Haired Legislature continually works to improve the lives of older adults living in Missouri.  Priority topics included the restoration of funding for the home delivered meal program, silver alert systems for endangered adults, Medicaid asset levels, stricter rules for pay-day lenders, and background checks for long-term care workers.

Participation is encouraged, and all adults over age 60 living in St. Louis City are welcome to apply. Applications must be received by Wednesday, April 25, 2012.  Shortly after the application has been received, the nominees will receive notification of their candidacy.

Please contact Anneliese Stoever at (314) 657-1669 for more information.
