On Veterans Day, November 11, 2011, The St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, Lumiere Place, HEC-TV, the Third Baptist Church of St. Louis and the VA St. Louis Health Care System, combined to sponsor a Veterans Day Service to honor all veterans and to recognize the plight of homeless veterans.

Described as a time to celebrate Veterans' victories and battles, the program was highlighted by members of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra performing along with vocals by SSgt Brian Owens of the Missouri Air National Guard Band of the Central States, "Sidewinder", and his father, Thomas Owens, a U.S. Army, Vietnam Veteran.  Voices of veterans were heard from sharing their experiences of being homeless and describing the help they received to end their homeless state.

The event was emceed by Gene Dobbs Bradford of Jazz St. Louis and speakers included Rima Ann O. Nelson, Director of VA St. Louis Health Care System, Marlene Davis, Alderwoman, 19th Ward, and Bill Siedhoff, Director of the city's Department of Human Services.

The ceremony was broadcast live on HEC-TV, AT&T U-Verse Channel 99 and live-streamed at hectv.org.
