ST. LOUIS PUBLIC LIBRARY'S FEBRUARY AUTHORS @ YOUR LIBRARY SERIES LINEUP

The St. Louis Public Library is proud to present Lerone A. Martin, Kadir Nelson, and Judy A. Smith as part of the February installment of its popular Authors @ Your Library series.  All events are FREE and open to the public.

· Lerone A. Martin discusses and signs his new book, Preaching on Wax: The Phonograph and the Making of Modern African-American Religion.  The event takes place at the Julia Davis Branch, 4415 Natural Bridge Ave., on February 7 at 2 p.m.

Martin provides the first comprehensive history of African-American clergymen who recorded their sermons on 78 rpm records with major labels such as Columbia, Paramount, and RCA-Victor.

· Award-winning American author and illustrator Kadir Nelson is the Library's Black History Month Special Guest Speaker.  He discusses and signs his book, Nelson Mandela.  The event takes place at the Schlafly Branch, 225 N. Euclid, on February 11 at 7 p.m.  Seating is first-come, first-served.

This picture book biography is the story of Mandela's determination to change South Africa and of the struggles of the man who eventually became its president by believing in equality for all people, no matter their skin color.

· Judy A. Smith, crisis management expert, delivers the Library's Black History Month Keynote Address as she discusses Crisis 101: Surviving and Thriving in an Era of Perpetual Crisis and How It Relates to African-American History and Culture.  The event takes place at Central Library, 1301 Olive St., on February 22 at 2 p.m.  Seating is first-come, first-served.  Member of the FRIENDS of the St. Louis Public Library should call 314.539.0359 for limited reserved seating.

Smith was the inspiration for Shonda Rhimes, creator of ABC's hit television dramas Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice, to develop a television drama about the world of crisis management. The series, Scandal, revolves around the life and work of a professional "fixer."
