ST. LOUIS PUBLIC LIBRARY "GOES WILD" THIS FALL AS IT CELEBRATES THE ART OF MAURICE SENDAK
The St. Louis Public Library will #GoWildSLPL this fall as it proudly presents "The Art of Maurice Sendak" Exhibition and Programming from September 5 through October 18. The multifaceted celebration will feature exhibits, programs, activities, and discussions for kids and adults at Central Library and the Library's 16 locations. All events are FREE and open to the public.
The exhibit kicks off at Central Library, 1301 Olive Street, on Saturday, September 5, at 10 a.m. with a Grand Opening Ceremony featuring dignitaries and LIVE "Wild Things" from Where the Wild Things Are! There will be activities for kids including crafts, storytelling, and a special reading of Where the Wild Things Are by NOW 96.3 FM radio personality Christine Pawlak.
The centerpiece of the six-week celebration is a remarkable art display, Maurice Sendak: The Memorial Exhibition—50 Years, Works, Reasons, which features 50 original works by the late artist and is augmented by comments from celebrities, authors, and notable personalities. The exhibition includes sketches, illustrations, and works on paper, and showcases milestones in Sendak's career.
Of course, there's much more. Kids will Go Wild at SLPL as they:
·Enter the life-size, interactive replica of Max's bedroom
·Lie on Max's bed, gaze at the jungle canopy, and hear night sounds
·Climb in Max's sailboat
·Find monsters hiding throughout the Library
·Pretend Max's dinner is for them
·Become Max in a photograph
·Take a picture at the Selfie Station
