With the end of the year fast approaching, don't overlook the valuable opportunity this time of year offers. The last month of the year is an ideal time to review the past 12 months in order to make resolutions for the the new year.

There are several things you can do this month to help set yourself up for business success in the upcoming year.

  • Review and reflect on the past 12 months. Take stock of where you are in your career in regard to where you want to be, evaluate what went well for you professionally, and areas in which you can improve.
  • Make a game plan for the next 12 months. Create a broad goal for 2019, plus smaller goals that complement and help you reach your main goal. Create an outline of how you'll reach those goals, set deadlines for accomplishing them, and determine ways that will guarantee you stay on track. Review your plan of action quarterly. If your circumstances change, your goals will need to be revised.
  • Clean up your inbox. Start the new year off with a fresh, uncluttered inbox. Create filters to help keep your inbox as free from clutter as possible. As part of your action plan for 2019, schedule time once a month, or at least once a quarter, to unclutter your inbox. Having control of your inbox is an attainable goal.
  • Finish as many small tasks as possible. The more small tasks you can check off your to do list, the better you'll be prepared for 2019. Don't procrastinate and leave things until January. Take the few extra minutes to tie up loose ends on a project in order to complete it.

By setting goals and developing an action plan, you can make 2019 the best year of your career.
