ST. LOUIS PUBLIC LIBRARY'S AUTHORS @ YOUR LIBRARY SERIES PRESENTS ENGAGING AUTHORS FOR ADULTS AND KIDS IN OCTOBER

 

The St. Louis Public Library is proud to present engaging authors during October including John Bemelmans Marciano, Michael Buckley & Shannon Messenger, Michele Bonnell, Marshall Cohen, Mem Fox, Clint Hill & Lisa McCubbin, Ifeoma Onyefulu, and Bennett Sims.  All events are FREE and open to the public.

 

*  Marshall Cohen discusses and signs Rough Cuts: A Man, A Plan, and A Gym—Uplifting Stories From the St. Louis 'Hood. The event takes place at the Schlafly Branch, 225 N. Euclid Ave., on October 3 at 7 p.m.

 

In this frank, moving, and humorous memoir, Cohen shares his struggles and the all-too-real stories of kids at the gym.

*  Michele Bonnell discusses and signs Tunnels, Cappuccino, and a Heist.  The event takes place at the Carondelet Branch, 6800 Michigan Ave., on October 12 at 11 a.m.

 

Aspiring artist Olivia Katz only meant to drop by a fundraiser to see the Egyptian artifact that would ignite a global repatriation frenzy. But before the artifact is unveiled, the museum director suddenly dies.

*  John Bemelmans Marciano celebrates Madeline's 75thanniversary by discussing and signing the latest title in the series, Madeline and the Old House in Paris. The event takes place at the Schlafly Branch, 225 N. Euclid Ave., on October 16 at 6 p.m.

 

Marciano carries on the legacy begun by his grandfather, Ludwig Bemelmans, author and illustrator of the Madeline books, with stunning watercolor artwork and playful, energetic storytelling. He is the author and illustrator of other books including Delilah and Bemelmans: The Life and Art of Madeline's Creator.

*  Ifeoma Onyefulu discusses and signs her books. The event takes place at the Carpenter Branch, 3309 S. Grand Blvd. on October 17 at 6 p.m.

 

Onyefulu travels with her camera, recording moments of play, celebration, work, and quiet reflection in contemporary Africa. Her strong sense of family and community shines through her brightly colored photography. Her newest books, Play and Home, were photographed in Mali.

*  Clint Hill and Lisa McCubbin discuss their upcoming book, Five Days in November. The event takes place at Central Library1301 Olive Street, on October 18 at7 p.m.

 

The New York Times bestselling authors of Mrs. Kennedy and Me share the stories behind the five tragic days surrounding John F. Kennedy's assassination—alongside revealing and iconic photographs—published in remembrance of the 50thanniversary of the president's death.

*  Mem Fox discusses and signs Yoo-Hoo, Ladybug!. The event takes place at Central Library1301 Olive Street, on October 21 at 6 p.m.

 

With more than 40 children's books to her credit, Fox is Australia's best-loved picture-book author. Her books include storytime favorites Wilfrid Gordon McDonald PartridgeWombat DivineKoala Lou, and Hattie and the Fox.

 

The program is part of Read St. Louis, a community-wide initiative created by the St. Louis Public Library, St. Charles City-County Library, and Saint Louis County Library to encourage reading and discussing books.

*  Michael Buckley and Sharon Messenger discuss and sign their books. The event takes place at Central Library1301 Olive Street, on October 22 at 7 p.m.

 

Buckley, 2013's Reading Pays—Pass It On! author, discusses and signs his new book, NERDS: Book Five: Attack of the Bullies.  Kids in Grades 3-5 can get a FREE copy of either Book One of the NERDS series or Book Two: M is for Mama's Boy at any Branch, while supplies last. Kids are encouraged to read the book and then share it with their friends. PLUS! Sharon Messenger discusses and signs her new book, Keeper of the Lost Cities: Exile (Book 2).  She is also the author of the young adult novels, Let the Sky Fall and Let the Storms Break.

*  Bennett Sims discusses and signs A Questionable Shape. The event takes place at Central Library1301 Olive Street, on October 30 at 7 p.m.

 

Sims turns typical zombie fare on its head to deliver a wise and philosophical reflection on the nature of memory and loss.
