The St. Louis Public Library is proud to present, Cass Gilbert's Vision and Central
Library Today, a discussion
about the restoration of Central Library in relation to its original architect,
Cass Gilbert, and his design. The event will be held in the Central Library Auditorium,
Cass Gilbert authority Sharon Irish leads a discussion with George Nikolajevich, principal architect on the Central Library restoration project, and Waller McGuire, Executive Director of the St. Louis Public Library. The trio discusses Gilbert's early 20th-century vision for the Library as well as how the restoration and renewal of Central Library has maintained the integrity of the great architect's original design while bringing his masterpiece up to standards befitting a 21st-century cultural treasure.
Irish is an expert on the life and work of Cass Gilbert as well as an art and architectural historian interested in ways to activate history and the arts in the present day, for a variety of people.
Nikolajevich, the Design Principal of Cannon Design, demonstrates a humanist's touch with simple materials. His work in education and healthcare combines a Midwestern sensibility with a flair for sophisticated design. He has two decades of award-winning projects under his belt.
McGuire has overseen the restoration of Central Library.
