STL to Hold Full-Scale Exercise
Airport will practice emergency response to runway incident.
On Saturday, June 8, 2024, St. Louis Lambert International Airport (STL) will hold a full-scale exercise on the airport grounds. STL will use Runway 11-29, on the facility’s west side, for this exercise. This training drill will revolve around a hypothetical accident in which a plane ingests a drone during take-off.
As part of the training, there will be an active simulated aircraft fire. During the exercise, surrounding municipalities and organizations such as Abbott EMS, Berkley Fire Department, Ferguson Fire Department, Maryland Heights Fire Department, Overland Fire Department, Pattonville Fire Department, Boeing, City of St. Louis Police and Fire Departments, St. Ann Police Department, City of St. John Police Department and Woodson Terrace Police Department will participate as mutual aid partners. To simulate a real emergency, the training will include role players. This full-scale event will begin on Saturday starting at 9:00 a.m. and will run until approximately noon.

Parking lot of the Airport Office Building (AOB)(Address: 11495 Navaid Road)
Meeting Time:
Saturday, June 8 at 8:00 a.m. (Buses leave for exercise location at 8:35 a.m.)
Note: If you wish to attend as a member of the media, contact STL’s Roger Lotz by noon on Friday (6/7). We will need the following from those in the media that wish to attend the gate event:

As an observer of STL’s full-scale exercise, media will view the simulated accident from an elevated viewing area just northwest of the runway. From that location, photographers will have a clear view of the planned incident. Reporters will be able to interview exercise participants in the Friends and Family Center located in STL’s Terminal 1 Concourse B later during the exercise. STL also plans to conduct a press conference during the exercise, which will allow media members to participate in this event.
